How we run a migration
Every migration follows the same sequence, scaled to the size of the dataset and the number of systems involved:
- Document the source system, including the undocumented rules and the reports that depend on it
- Map every field to its destination and decide how conflicts, duplicates, and exceptions are handled
- Run a trial migration against a copy of the data and review the results with your team
- Schedule the cutover for a window that fits your operation, with a rollback plan agreed in advance
- Reconcile the destination against the source and hand over the audit record
